Responsibilities

The planning manager is responsible for developing, managing, and controlling the project schedule to ensure timely delivery in line with client requirements. The role involves monitoring progress, identifying risks and delays, and coordinating with contractors and stakeholders to maintain alignment. They assess the impact of changes, implement recovery strategies where required, and provide clear, accurate reporting to senior management and the client. Ultimately, the planning manager ensures the project remains on track from a planning and scheduling perspective.

Key duties include:

  • Review and comment on the baseline schedule and other schedules, reporting to the controls manager.
  • Review and continuously monitor the contractor’s major construction progress against approved schedules, ensuring equipment and manpower are adequate; report any shortages to the controls manager.
  • Review in detail the recovery schedules submitted by contractors and ensure manpower and site supervision staff are increased appropriately.
  • Conduct regular visits to project sites to validate whether the progress of work is in compliance with approved schedules and major milestones have been met; report deficiencies to the construction manager.
  • Review all daily, weekly, and monthly reports submitted by the contractor and report any deficiencies or non-compliance to the controls manager.
  • Review any claims involving time impact submitted by the contractor and report assessments to the controls manager.
  • Review field design changes and trend notices and assess any time impact.
  • Advise the construction manager of any foreseen slippage of progress and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attend weekly progress meetings and monthly executive meetings and participate in preparing the agenda.
  • Assist controls managers during the preparation of monthly progress reports and monthly executive presentations.
  • Review commissioning plans submitted by the contractor and ensure compliance with the approved baseline schedule.
  • Participate with project management consultant staff in reviewing close-out reports submitted by the contractor.

Qualifications

  • Qualified engineer with a Bachelor of Science degree or higher.
  • Minimum of 12 to 15 years’ experience in planning works on similar projects.
  • Fully conversant with Primavera, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and related software.
