Roles & Responsibilities
Operate the sulphonation reactor and associated process equipment through start-up, in-process control, and shutdown
Control reaction parameters (feed rates, temperature, SO3/oleum or air-SO3 ratio, residence time) to maintain product quality and yield
Handle and charge raw material safely, following correct procedures for corrosive and reactive chemicals
Monitor the process for abnormal conditions and respond correctly to upsets, deviations, or equipment issues without needing to escalate every decision
Coordinate tank farm receipt, storage, and transfer of feedstock and product in support of each campaign
Work with the QC to verify in-process and finished product quality against specification
Work with the SHERQ on safe handling, PPE, ventilation/scrubber operation, spill response, and regulatory compliance specific to sulphonation
Supervise and train assistant operators during the shift, including PPE compliance and safe work practice
Complete accurate records, shift logs, and incident or near-miss reports
Support planning and equipment readiness (inspections, maintenance, cleaning, spares) between plant runs
Desired Candidate Profile
Diploma or Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering
5 to 10 years of experience working in a Sulphonation Plant
Strong written and spoken English.
Basic computer skills.
Commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
Ability to work independently in shifts and as part of a team.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
