Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Role Overview
A Mechanical Draftsman in the coil manufacturing industry prepares detailed technical drawings and layouts for HVAC coils, heat exchanger coils, condenser/evaporator coils, and related sheet metal components. You will translate engineer designs into shop-ready drawings used by production, CNC, and assembly teams.
Desired Candidate Profile
Drawing & Detailing: Create 2D/3D drawings of finned tube coils, DX coils, chilled water coils, and condenser coils using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software.
Coil Calculations: Interpret engineering data sheets and apply standards to detail tube layouts, fin spacing, header design, circuiting, number of rows, and coil dimensions.
Shop Drawings: Develop fabrication drawings with tolerances, bend allowances, material specs, and welding symbols for production teams.
Bill of Materials: Generate accurate BOMs for copper tubes, aluminum fins, headers, casings, and accessories from drawings.
Revisions & As-Builts: Update drawings based on site feedback, engineering changes, or production issues. Maintain drawing registers and revision control.
Coordination: Work with design engineers, production, and CNC programmers to ensure drawings meet manufacturability and project specs.
Standards Compliance: Follow AHRI, ASHRAE, and internal company standards for coil design and drafting practices.
Material Optimization: Suggest layouts to minimize material waste during fin stamping, tube bending, and casing fabrication.
