The Role We are seeking an experienced Animal Welfare Manager to lead animal welfare strategies, compliance programs, ethical care standards, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will oversee welfare policies, animal health practices, regulatory compliance, staff training, welfare assessments, and cross-functional collaboration while ensuring responsible and humane treatment of animals across all operations. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement enterprise animal welfare strategies, policies, standards, and management frameworks aligned with organizational objectives and international best practices. Lead animal welfare programs across livestock operations, aquaculture facilities, research environments, zoological settings, agricultural operations, or other animal-related environments, as applicable. Collaborate with Veterinary Services, Animal Care Teams, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Research & Development, Quality Assurance, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, Sustainability, and Executive Leadership to promote welfare excellence. Establish animal welfare protocols covering housing, nutrition, handling, transportation, breeding, enrichment, health monitoring, and humane treatment practices. Conduct animal welfare assessments, audits, inspections, behavioral observations, risk evaluations, and compliance reviews. Monitor animal health indicators, welfare outcomes, mortality trends, stress factors, environmental conditions, and improvement opportunities. Develop and implement animal welfare improvement plans, corrective actions, preventive measures, and continuous improvement programs. Ensure compliance with UAE animal welfare regulations, international welfare standards, veterinary requirements, ethical guidelines, and relevant industry certification frameworks. Develop and deliver animal welfare training programs, competency assessments, awareness initiatives, and best practice guidance for employees, contractors, and stakeholders. Support veterinary teams in disease prevention, biosecurity programs, health monitoring, emergency response, and animal care decision-making. Evaluate animal facilities, equipment, environmental conditions, handling procedures, and operational practices to improve welfare outcomes. Establish animal welfare metrics, reporting frameworks, audit methodologies, and governance processes. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including welfare assessment scores, mortality rates, health outcomes, compliance performance, training completion, audit findings, corrective action closure, animal health indicators, and sustainability performance. Conduct welfare benchmarking studies, ethical reviews, incident investigations, root cause analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives. Manage animal welfare budgets, veterinary partnerships, welfare assessment tools, training resources, external specialists, certification programs, and strategic welfare initiatives. Drive digital transformation through artificial intelligence (AI)-powered animal monitoring, computer vision-based welfare assessment, predictive health analytics, IoT-enabled environmental monitoring, automated reporting, and business intelligence solutions. Utilize animal management systems, veterinary information systems, farm management platforms, laboratory information systems (LIMS), Microsoft 365, Power BI, Tableau, GIS tools, ERP platforms, and welfare monitoring technologies to optimize animal care and generate actionable insights. Prepare executive dashboards, welfare performance reports, compliance assessments, animal health analyses, sustainability reports, risk evaluations, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership. Lead, mentor, and develop animal welfare specialists, veterinary support teams, animal care personnel, and cross-functional stakeholders while fostering a culture of compassion, scientific integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Science, Zoology, Biology, Agriculture, Aquaculture, Animal Welfare, Environmental Science, or a related field. Master's degree in Animal Welfare Science, Veterinary Public Health, Animal Behavior, Agriculture, Sustainability, Business Administration (MBA), or a related discipline is highly advantageous. Professional certifications in Animal Welfare, Veterinary Management, Animal Care, Farm Assurance, Welfare Auditing, Project Management Professional (PMP), or equivalent are preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in animal welfare, veterinary services, livestock management, aquaculture, animal care operations, research environments, or related roles. At least 2 years of experience managing animal welfare programs, welfare assessments, veterinary teams, animal care operations, or ethical compliance initiatives preferred. Strong understanding of animal welfare science, animal behavior, veterinary principles, welfare assessment methodologies, ethical animal management, biosecurity, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. Experience with animal management systems, veterinary software, farm management platforms, LIMS, Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, Tableau, GIS tools, ERP systems, and welfare monitoring technologies. Familiarity with AI-powered animal monitoring, computer vision technologies, predictive animal health analytics, smart farming systems, digital welfare assessment tools, and advanced biological monitoring solutions is highly advantageous. Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, project management, budgeting, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple animal welfare initiatives while balancing ethical standards, operational requirements, regulatory obligations, budgets, timelines, and organizational objectives. Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with distributed animal care teams, veterinarians, researchers, regulators, operational leaders, suppliers, and global stakeholders, with occasional travel for facility assessments, audits, training, inspections, conferences, and strategic planning sessions as required.
