Testing Equipment and Chemicals.

Operate laboratory equipment only after receiving the required training and authorization.

• Perform routine inspection, cleaning and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.

• Maintain equipment usage, maintenance, verification and calibration records as required by MIGS QMS procedures.

• Report damaged, malfunctioning or out-of-calibration equipment immediately and ensure such equipment is not

used until appropriately released.

• Monitor laboratory stocks of chemicals, reagents, consumables, spare parts and testing materials and report

replenishment requirements.

• Prepare laboratory reagents and standard solutions according to approved procedures where required.

• Ensure chemicals, samples and reagents are properly identified, labelled and stored in designated locations.

• Maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure they are readily accessible for chemicals used in the

laboratory.

Maintain good housekeeping and ensure laboratory benches, equipment, work areas and chemical storage

Laboratory Responsibilities.

• Perform routine WBM, OBM and SBM laboratory testing in accordance with applicable API Recommended

Practices, MIGS QMS procedures, approved test methods and product specifications.

• Prepare drilling and completion fluid formulations according to formulations and treatment schedules

provided by the Lab Engineer, Laboratory Supervisor or Technical & R&D Manager.

• Perform routine QA/QC testing of incoming raw materials, finished products and customer or supplier

samples against approved specifications and acceptance criteria.

• Assist with laboratory testing and evaluation of new, alternative and replacement products.

• Assist Lab Engineers and supervisors with product evaluation, compatibility testing, formulation

development, troubleshooting and R&D projects.

• Perform routine drilling-fluid tests including density, rheology, filtration, electrical stability, retort

analysis, alkalinity, chloride, calcium/hardness and other applicable physical and chemical tests.

• Conduct HPHT and other specialized laboratory tests when trained, competent and authorized to operate

the applicable equipment.

• Accurately record test conditions, observations, calculations and results on approved laboratory

worksheets, databases or reporting systems.

• Immediately report unusual test results, product failures, equipment problems or deviations from

specifications to the Lab Engineer or Laboratory Supervisor.

• Repeat or confirm laboratory tests when requested to verify results or investigate discrepancies.

• Assist in preparation of laboratory fluids and samples required for field operations, tenders, customer

evaluations and third-party laboratory testing.

• Prepare, package, label, document and dispatch chemical and fluid samples according to specifications and

requirements provided by MIGS customers and applicable shipping requirements.

• Assist with corrosion-ring preparation, cleaning, weighing, measurement and recording of results as

required.

• Maintain proper identification, traceability, storage and disposal of laboratory samples.

Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE)

• Comply with MIGS Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and laboratory safety

requirements.

• Review and comply with applicable Risk Assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Safety Data Sheets

(SDS) and operating procedures before carrying out laboratory activities.

• Use the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to each laboratory activity.

• Handle, store and dispose of chemicals, drilling fluids and laboratory waste in accordance with applicable

QHSE and environmental requirements.

• Immediately report spills, unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents and other QHSE events through the

applicable MIGS reporting systems, including CARE and HOC where required.

• Stop work and notify the Laboratory Supervisor or Technical & R&D Manager where an activity presents

an immediate safety risk.

• Intervene appropriately when unsafe acts or conditions are observed and encourage safe working

practices among colleagues.

• Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, audits and QHSE training as required.

• Maintain all required technical and QHSE training and competency requirements relevant to the position

Desired Candidate Profile

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Laboratory Technology or a related technical/scientific discipline. Experience: Preferably 3+ years of proven laboratory experience, and in operating laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous / hazardous substances (flammable liquids, corrosive, alkaline products, biohazards etc.), ideally within drilling fluids, oilfield chemicals, petroleum services, chemical manufacturing or a related industry.
