Job description
Job Description:
The NSSTC is looking to hire a communications engineer to support the development of NSSTC Space mission projects and R&D activities. • The communications engineer is expected to be involved in the development of NSSTC’s satellites communications systems, from both theoretical and practical aspects, including back-end digital / analogue processing and front-end RF processing and antenna systems (in the MHzs to 10s of GHz frequency band), defining requirements for transmission and receiving communication systems and frequencies, preferably for Satellites. • Support the definition of the Ground Station requirements definition and ground station architecture and implementation. • The role requires the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that will be engaged in the design and development of CubeSats and Small Spacecraft. As an engineer you will be asked to perform a variety of tasks related to the development of projects within the NSSTC including (but not limited to) generating the communications system and sub-system hardware requirements and providing performance parameters to the sub-systems and components to be procured and specify them, collecting related requirements from the various systems and sub-systems that define the function of the communication system, identify and tradeoffs various communication system architectures and implementation, support the team during the various stages of project developments including integration and environmental testing. • Provide support during mission operations, including initial in-orbit functional validation and functional performance. • Ability to analyses problems and faults remotely when the Spacecraft is in orbit. Be able to support the Mission operations team in the generation solution approaches and related commands to be implemented and transmitted to the spacecraft when necessary. • The ability to work with students at UAE University as a mentor is required. Travel may be required – both domestic and international. • The position is located at the NSSTC facility in Al Ain. • Compensation based on experience level. Your responsibilities will include: • Interfacing with a multi-disciplinary team including professionals, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students • Documenting interfaces and requirements • Designing discipline-specific software components for space flight applications • Modeling and analyzing designs of flight computer hardware space and its integration with the rest of the spacecraft systems, as well as how it will host the embedded real time software for the mission. • Performing other engineering tasks Technical responsibilities, in addition to those listed in include: • Designing Satellite communications systems including both theoretical and practical aspects as well as simulation and validation, for back-end digital / analogue processing and front-end RF processing and antenna systems (in the MHzs to 10s of GHz frequency band), defining requirements for transmission and receiving communication systems and frequencies. • Modeling and developing suitable and innovative modulation / de-modulation techniques, signal coding, encryption /decryption block error detection correction, communication protocols (including CSDS). • Developing RF communications link budget calculation. • Developing communication models to account data rate transmission. • Adopt digital techniques for communication signals processing for communication back-end – digital systems including Software defined Radio with experience in using Matlab and a high level programing language. • Specify and perform RF testing and verification of communication system. • Support the definition of the Ground Station requirements definition and ground station architecture and implementation.
