Roles & Responsibilities

We are seeking a motivated Commis to join our professional kitchen team in a private property. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Chef de Partie and Head Chef to prepare, cook, and present high-quality dishes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food, eager to learn, and committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene and kitchen operations.


Key Responsibilities - commis chef duties

  • Assist with daily food preparation, including washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients.

  • Prepare basic dishes and components to the specification of senior chefs.

  • Maintain consistent portion control and presentation standards.

  • Ensure mise en place is complete and stations are well organised.

  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and responsibly.

  • Support senior chefs during service, including plating and garnishing.

  • Follow recipes and menu specifications, adapting to menu changes when required.

  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards, including HACCP documentation.

  • Contribute to a positive team environment and participate in training and development.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Basic culinary qualification (NVQ Level 1/2 or equivalent) or demonstrable kitchen experience.

  • Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow recipes precisely.

  • Good time management and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to learn, take direction and develop culinary skills.

  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen equipment/stock as required.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude.

  • Flexibility with shift patterns including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
