Location: Abu Dhabi Duration: Yearly renewable contract Job Summary:We are looking for Senior Backend Engineers to own significant parts of the backend platform that the AI Factory’s engineering teams build on. You will design, build, and operate the services, APIs, event pipelines, and data infrastructure that production systems run on.<br>Basic qualifications7+ years of backend or platform engineering experience, with a track record of owning the design and operation of production systems — not just contributing to systems built by others. Strong expertise in event-driven architecture: building and operating event streaming systems (Kafka, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Hubs, or equivalent) in production, including schema management, consumer topology, and the operational discipline to run asynchronous infrastructure reliably. Strong proficiency in Python, Java(Kotlin), or Go — with the depth to design well-structured services, evaluate trade-offs, and make sound architectural decisions on the surface area you own. Working expertise in cloud infrastructure on Azure — compute, networking, storage, managed services, and security — at the depth required to design and operate production systems independently. AWS or GCP experience at equivalent depth is also valued. Production experience with containerisation and orchestration: Kubernetes architecture, deployment patterns, cluster operations, and the practical depth to run containerised workloads reliably. Strong working knowledge of Postgre SQL at production scale: schema design, query optimisation, indexing strategies, connection pooling, and the operational discipline to run a critical relational database without constant intervention. Solid grounding in distributed systems design: consistency models, idempotency, back-pressure, retry semantics, and the trade-offs between synchronous and asynchronous communication. Strong observability practice: SLO design, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting that surfaces system health proactively. Practical use of AI coding agents — Codex, Claude Code, Open Code, or equivalent — as a core part of your engineering workflow. Strong written and verbal communication — you can author design documents, drive technical decisions in design reviews, and explain architectural trade-offs clearly to other engineers
