In this role, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of data centers across the region. You will also lead the delivery of high‑performance, resilient, and energy‑efficient mechanical systems for data center projects across the region. In addition, you will collaborate with global experts, mentor future talent, and help shape the next generation of digital infrastructure.</p><br><br><p><strong>What You’ll Do:</strong></p><br><br><ul><li>Lead the mechanical design for data center projects across concept, schematic, and detailed design stages with regional and international teams.</li><li>Develop and review mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water systems, CRAC/CRAH units, DX systems, ventilation, and thermal management strategies.</li><li>Ensure designs meet Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, TIA, LEED and local authority requirements, as well as Jacobs’ internal quality and sustainability standards.</li><li>Lead multidisciplinary coordination with electrical, structural, architecture, fire protection, and ICT teams to deliver integrated design solutions.</li><li>Represent Jacobs in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops, providing clear technical leadership and direction.</li><li>Mentor and guide mechanical engineers, supporting capability development and knowledge sharing across the team.</li><li>Support tender evaluations, technical reports, and design‑build contractor submissions.</li><li>Drive innovation, digital delivery, and continuous improvement within the mechanical discipline.</li></ul> <br> <br> <br> <br> Here's what you'll need <br> <ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred).</li><li>12+ years of mechanical design experience, including significant experience in data center projects.</li><li>Strong understanding of data center cooling systems, redundancy strategies, energy efficiency, and mission‑critical design principles.</li><li>Experience delivering projects in the KSA, UAE or wider GCC region.</li><li>Proficiency in design tools such as HAP, TRACE, Revit, AutoCAD, and digital engineering workflows.</li><li>Strong knowledge of international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IEC, ISO).</li><li>Demonstrated leadership experience managing design teams or major project packages.</li><li>Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem‑solving skills.</li><li>Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center clients.</li><li>Familiarity with BIM workflows and global delivery models.</li><li>Experience in sustainability‑driven design, energy modeling, or low‑carbon cooling strategies.</li></ul> <br> <br> <br> <br> From our inclusive employee networks to our positive mental health champions – we’re committed to driving a culture of caring where you can be you. Join us and be part of a company that's not just powering progress, but empowering people to build a brighter future.<br>Job Purpose:<br>The E‑House Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems within Electrical Houses (E‑Houses), ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards.<br>Roles & Responsibilities:<br>1. Structural Design & Calculation:Structural Integrity: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the structural design of E-House base frames, walls, roofs, and flooring systems to support heavy electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, VFDs). Load Analysis: validate complex structural calculations, including dead and live loads, wind, snow, seismic, and transit/lifting loads. Lifting & Transportation: validate lifting lugs design and CoG calculations, rigging plans, and transportation strategies for heavy, oversized modular units. Code Compliance: Ensure all structural designs comply with international standards (e.g., AISC, ASCE, IBC, Eurocodes) and project-specific requirements.<br>2. Cooling, Ventilation & HVAC Design:Thermal Management: Perform precise heat load calculations factoring in electrical equipment heat dissipation, solar radiation, and extreme ambient temperatures. System Sizing & Selection: Design and specify industrial-grade HVAC systems, including DX units, chilled water systems, and redundant backup systems (N+1, N+2). Pressurization & Filtration: Design overpressure and ventilation systems to prevent the ingress of dust, moisture, and hazardous/corrosive gases into the E-House.<br>3. Fire Alarm & Suppression Systems:System Design: Validate/Design and specify complete fire detection (smoke, heat, gas) and suppression systems suitable for live electrical environments (e.g., Clean Agent systems like NOVEC 1230, FM-200, or Inergen). Integration: Support in validating the control logic and cause-and-effect matrices for fire safety, including the automatic shutdown of HVAC systems and closure of motorized fire dampers during a fire event. Compliance: Ensure all fire alarm and suppression systems strictly adhere to NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 72, NFPA 2001) and local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.<br>4. Cross-Functional Leadership & Project Execution:Coordination: Collaborate seamlessly with Electrical, Layout, and Control engineers to ensure clash-free integration of mechanical systems with electrical panels and cable routing. Vendor Management: Evaluate vendor technical bids for steel fabrication, HVAC equipment, and fire safety systems. Fabrication Support: Resolve technical queries from the manufacturing floor and conduct mechanical inspections (FAT) prior to shipment.<br>You're a great fit if you have:<br>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Fluent Written and Verbal English and Arabic6-8 Years' of progressive engineering experience, with at least 5 years specifically dedicated to the design of E-Houses, Packaged Substations, or offshore modular enclosures. Strong knowledge of 3D modeling tools (e.g., Solid Works or Revit). Experience with heat load calculation software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE). Deep knowledge of international codes including AISC, ASCE, AWS, ASHRAE, and NFPA. Expertise in steel structures, protective coating systems (C4/C5 environments), and insulation materials.
