<p><span>Responsible for compounding and dispensing medications and prescriptions in accordance with accepted standards and established pharmacy procedures and counselling patients.</span></p><br><br>Responsibilities:<br> <span><strong>Key Responsibilities of the role</strong></span> <span><strong>Corresponding Key Activities performed by the role</strong></span> <br> <span><strong>Managerial</strong></span> <p><span>Mentor junior staff and ensure their abidance to going rules and policies as applied and implemented in the department.</span></p><br> <p><span>Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.</span></p><br> <p><span>Report shortage of materials to immediate supervisor in a timely manner.</span></p><br> <br> <span><strong>Technical</strong></span> <p><span>Review medication orders and patient medication profiles for appropriateness of therapy.</span></p><br> <p><span>Verify and monitor these medication orders for drug interactions, duplication and omission therapy, allergies, adverse reactions, and recommend appropriate formulary alternatives as needed.</span></p><br> <p><span>Inform physicians of drug unavailability and assist in suggesting alternatives.</span></p><br> <p><span>Responsible for reviewing and interpreting medication orders' for clarity, accuracy, rationality, compatibility, feasibility and suitability for the patient, when applicable.</span></p><br> <p><span>Calculate and confirm pharmaceutical dosage calculations (paediatric doses, IV admixtures, TPN, chemotherapy, etc)...</span></p><br> <p><span>Prepare and compound medications as per applicable standards.</span></p><br> <p><span>Perform double checks on the prepared medications.</span></p><br> <p><span>Comply with federal and local rules and regulations in regard to pharmacy activities, including but not limited to preparation, labeling and delivery of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies. </span></p><br> <p><span>Follow appropriate procedures for dispensing medication prescriptions.</span></p><br> <p><span>Maintain the required records of dispensing.</span></p><br> <p><span>Provide patient counseling and advice as necessary on the proper and safe use of medication.</span></p><br> <p><span>Maintain proper documentation on patient medication profiles or prescriptions. </span></p><br> <p><span>Ensure and maintain medication proper storage conditions.</span></p><br> <p><span>Perform inspections of nursing units to assure safe and secure storage.</span></p><br> <p><span>Comply with the safe and competent use of all pharmacy equipment used in their area of practice.</span></p><br> <p><span>Operate and maintain pharmaceutical equipment according to policies and procedures.</span></p><br> <p><span>Conduct checks and calibration of equipment as required. Recognize, report and advise on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information. Ensure that the equipment is used in the correct manner to obtain optimal results.
