<p>Embodied AI and Robotics (AIR) Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Junior Research Scientist to support technology translation research involving artificial intelligence, robotics, assistive technologies, and human-centered systems. The successful applicant will contribute to transforming emerging research outcomes into practical prototypes and deployable solutions that address real-world challenges in accessibility, inclusive mobility, and smart urban environments. <p>Research at AIR focuses on developing interdisciplinary, technology-driven solutions for sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and human-centered cities. The Junior Research Scientist will work on projects that bridge fundamental research and real-world application, with particular emphasis on translating advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and human-computer interaction into usable technologies.</p><br><br>
<p>The role may involve supporting the evaluation of AI-powered assistive technologies for people with disabilities, including systems for accessible navigation, communication, public services, and urban mobility. Initial projects may include the translation of research prototypes into pilot-ready systems for deployment in environments such as transportation hubs, public institutions, hospitals, campuses, and commercial facilities.</p><br><br>
<p>The Junior Research Scientist will collaborate with researchers, engineers, industry partners, government entities, community stakeholders, and prospective users to identify practical requirements and evaluate the technical and social impact of proposed solutions. The position also provides opportunities to contribute to new research directions related to technology translation, responsible AI, inclusive design, and the practical adoption of emerging technologies.</p><br><br>
<p><strong>Responsibilities of the position include:</strong></p><br><br>

<li>Translating research concepts and experimental systems into functional, user-oriented prototypes.</li>
<li>Supporting the design, development, integration, testing, and evaluation of AI- and robotics-based technologies.</li>
<li>Conducting literature reviews and technology landscape analyses to identify relevant research, technical approaches, and application opportunities.</li>
<li>Collecting, processing, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative research data.</li>
<li>Supporting user studies, field evaluations, pilot deployments, and demonstrations in real-world environments.</li>
<li>Engaging with researchers, end users, community representatives, government entities, and industry partners to understand requirements and gather feedback.</li>
<li>Assessing the technical feasibility, usability, accessibility, scalability, and potential impact of research technologies.</li>
<li>Preparing technical documentation, research reports, presentations, project proposals, and materials for academic or external stakeholders.</li>
<li>Coordinating project activities and supporting the day-to-day management of technology translation initiatives.</li>
<li>Contributing to research publications, grant proposals, intellectual property documentation, and technology commercialization activities where appropriate.</li>
</ul>
<p>Candidates must hold a bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent) in any field. Applicants with less than five years of professional experience are encouraged to apply.
