Job Title: Synthetic Human Designer — AI Characters & Virtual Humans (1 Position)<br><br>About the Job<br><br>We are seeking a creative, interdisciplinary, and technically aware Synthetic Human Designer to design believable, expressive, and intelligent synthetic humans for AI-powered digital experiences. The successful candidate will work across visual appearance, digital identity, personality, behavior, movement, voice, emotion, and interaction to create synthetic humans that can communicate and behave coherently across different environments and contexts.<br><br>This is a hands-on role at the intersection of artificial intelligence, character design, digital humans, animation, storytelling, human behavior, real-time 3D, and human-AI interaction. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with AI specialists, character artists, 3D artists, animators, technical artists, writers, conversational designers, voice and performance teams, UX through visual, behavioral, interactive, and technical development.<br><br>Develop the overall design language of synthetic humans, including physical appearance, digital identity, personality, behavior, emotional characteristics, communication style, movement, voice, and presence.<br><br>Translate character concepts, narratives, functional requirements, cultural references, and user needs into coherent synthetic human designs.<br><br>Develop detailed character specifications covering identity, personality, background, motivations, values, goals, preferences, emotional range, behavioral patterns, and social characteristics.<br><br>Design realistic, stylized, or intentionally synthetic human appearances according to the creative and functional requirements of each project.<br><br>Collaborate with 3D artists to develop facial features, anatomy, body proportions, clothing, hair, materials, textures, and other visual elements.<br><br>Work with character and technical artists on facial rigs, blendshapes, body rigs, deformation systems, eye movement, lip synchronization, and expressive capabilities.<br><br>Design how synthetic humans communicate through consistently express the character's identity and personality.<br><br>Work with animation, motion capture, facial capture, and performance teams to develop believable human humans into real-time environments using platforms such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Meta Human, or comparable technologies.<br><br>Evaluate synthetic human behavior and performance for realism, coherence, responsiveness, emotional expression, continuity, and character consistency.<br><br>Identify gaps or inconsistencies between visual identity, personality, AI behavior, voice, animation, and interaction.<br><br>Participate in testing, role-play, scenario development, user research, and iterative character refinement.<br><br>Develop scenario libraries and edge cases to evaluate how synthetic humans behave across diverse interactions.<br><br>Establish design principles and evaluation criteria for believable synthetic human appearance, behavior, communication, emotional creative, behavioral, technical, and user-experience requirements remain aligned throughout development.<br><br>Qualifications<br><br>Minimum BA/MA in Character Design, Animation, Digital Media, Computer Graphics, Interaction Design, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Game Design, Film, Visual Effects, Artificial Intelligence, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.<br><br>At least 3–5 years of experience in character design, digital humans, animation, interactive media, game development, virtual production, AI experiences, or a related field.<br><br>Demonstrable experience designing characters, digital humans, avatars, virtual humans, interactive agents, or comparable digital entities.<br><br>Strong understanding of human anatomy, facial expression, body language, movement, gesture, gaze, posture, and non-verbal communication.<br><br>Strong understanding of character development, personality, human behavior, emotion, social interaction, and narrative Support the OM and all project stakeholders in the effective delivery of key projects such as new builds and major expansions, sharing knowledge and good practice during project execution.<br><br><br>Leadership & Management<br><br>Oversee the performance of the Operations & Support Service staff to ensure high standards of service are maintained throughout the School(s) and that cluster teams provide a collegial efficient and effective service culture. Continuously review school support services operating models and staffing levels to ensure the school is suitably resourced to deliver key objectives whilst ensuring school financial and operational performance is maintained. Contribute to the recruitment, professional development, appraisal, and training of all Operations & Support Service staff ensuring that members of the team undergo an individual development plan to help the school in building a high performance team. Facilitate coordination between multiple stakeholders (schools, cluster, ESE and HQ functions).<br><br><br>Finance, Commercial & Procurement<br><br>To support the Principal and OM in developing & monitoring all relevant budgets and expenditure, particularly operational costs, ensuring the department receives best value and service at all times. Continually reviewing opportunities for shared resource, cost and/or services across the cluster they hold responsibility for to ensure that the schools benefit from improved access to service teams and physical resources (i.e. support staff, transport etc). Org. Setting and Reporting<br>The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. Numerous additional intergovernmental instruments on migratory species conservation have been adopted under the broad umbrella of CMS and are supported by the CMS Secretariat. The CMS Secretariat also serves as the Secretariat for the Agreement on the Conservation of Small Cetaceans of the Baltic, North East Atlantic, Irish and North Seas (ASCOBANS). In addition, two regional agreements adopted under CMS have their own Secretariats, which are co-located with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn: the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the designated entity within the United Nations system for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional levels. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of Governments and the international community for action. In the present context, UNEP provides administrative services to the CMS, AEWA, ASCOBANS and EUROBATS Secretariats. This position is located at the CMS Office – Abu Dhabi. The Office coordinates the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation of Migratory Birds of Prey in Africa and Eurasia (Raptors MoU) and the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Management of Dugongs and their Habitats throughout their Range (Dugong MoU). Under the overall supervision of the CMS Executive Secretary and the direct supervision of the Executive Coordinator of the CMS Office – Abu Dhabi, the Programme Management Officer heads the Raptors MoU Coordinating Unit. The work of the Coordinating Unit focuses on six core areas: (1) MoU processes; (2) support to the Technical Advisory Group; (3) national and regional strategies; (4) the Vultures Multi-species Action Plan; (5) the Saker Falcon Global Action Plan; and (6) cross-cutting issues, including illegal killing, taking and trade, poisoning, and electrocution. The Programme Management Officer will jointly supervise the Associate Programme Management Officer with the Dugong MoU Coordinator.
