<p>Embodied AI and Robotics (AIR) Lab at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a Junior Research Scientist to support technology translation research involving artificial intelligence, robotics, assistive technologies, and human-centered systems. The successful applicant will contribute to transforming emerging research outcomes into practical prototypes and deployable solutions that address real-world challenges in accessibility, inclusive mobility, and smart urban environments. <p>Research at AIR focuses on developing interdisciplinary, technology-driven solutions for sustainable, resilient, inclusive, and human-centered cities. The Junior Research Scientist will work on projects that bridge fundamental research and real-world application, with particular emphasis on translating advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and human-computer interaction into usable technologies.</p><br><br>
<p>The role may involve supporting the evaluation of AI-powered assistive technologies for people with disabilities, including systems for accessible navigation, communication, public services, and urban mobility. Initial projects may include the translation of research prototypes into pilot-ready systems for deployment in environments such as transportation hubs, public institutions, hospitals, campuses, and commercial facilities.</p><br><br>
<p>The Junior Research Scientist will collaborate with researchers, engineers, industry partners, government entities, community stakeholders, and prospective users to identify practical requirements and evaluate the technical and social impact of proposed solutions. The position also provides opportunities to contribute to new research directions related to technology translation, responsible AI, inclusive design, and the practical adoption of emerging technologies.</p><br><br>

<li>Assessing the technical feasibility, usability, accessibility, scalability, and potential impact of research technologies.</li>
<li>Preparing technical documentation, research reports, presentations, project proposals, and materials for academic or external stakeholders.</li>
<li>Coordinating project activities and supporting the day-to-day management of technology translation initiatives.</li>
<li>Contributing to research publications, grant proposals, intellectual property documentation, and technology commercialization activities where appropriate.</li>

<p>Candidates must hold a bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent) in any field. Applicants with less than five years of professional experience are encouraged to apply. The aim of the GRSP’s work is to reduce death and serious injuries as a result of road crashes with a focus on low- and middle-income countries.<br><br>According To The World Health Organization, Road Traffic Injuries Claim More Than 1.35 Million Lives Each Year And Result In Approximately 50 Million Injuries. Low And Middle-income Countries Are Disproportionately Negatively Affected. Globally, Road Traffic Deaths Are The Leading Cause Of Death Among Young People Aged 5 To 29 Years And Can Cost Governments Between 3 And 5% Of GDP. Road Traffic Injuries And Deaths Represent a Manmade Humanitarian Crisis And GRSP/IFRC Are Committed To Evidence-based Interventions To Address This Global Pandemic. GRSP’s Work Includes:<br><br>Carrying out a variety of member and non-member funded road safety projects and research throughout the world but focused primarily in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Managing a Road Safety Grants Programme that supports civil society and Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies to strengthen legislation and policies that impact on road safety. Undertaking projects in low- and middle- income countries to reduce road crash deaths and serious injuries. Running road policing capacity building and training programmes in multiple cities and countries. Continued from Organizational Context)<br><br>GRSP’s work specifically contributes to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3.6 - “By 2030, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic crashes” and 11.2 – “By 2030, provide access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, improving road safety, notably by expanding public transport, with special attention to the needs of those in vulnerable situations, women, children, persons with disabilities and older persons.” GRSP also contributes to meeting the broader SDG sustainability agenda.<br><br>Purpose of Consultancy<br><br>This consultancy will enhance GRSP’s capacity to provide evidence-based technical review input to road safety policies, strategies, legislation, and related advocacy materials. It will also enhance GRSP’s existing educational resources and materials and create new educational resources, as needed, that are grounded in evidence and best practice principles.<br><br>The person filling this role will have an extensive understanding of contemporary global road safety issues, a strong track record of employing road safety research skills with a focus on behavioural risk factors, and translating this experience to the provision of technical review input and development of a broad range of educational materials. Expertise in the development and delivery of road safety technical content is required. This position requires a person who has experience in and understanding of technical and legislative facilitators and barriers to effective road safety policy development and implementation in the context of low- and middle-income countries.<br><br>Job Duties And Responsibilities<br><br>At the direction of the GRSP Senior Manager:<br><br>Provide evidence-based technical review of road safety legislation, policies, strategies, and advocacy materials. Develop road safety-related educational and technical training resources and course materials. Travel to a variety of international locations, which may include low- or middle-income countries, as required, to deliver programmes. Provide training and support to Advocacy & Grants Programme staff on technical inputs for grantees.<br><br><br>Desired Outcomes<br><br>Expanded GRSP capacity to provide evidence-based technical review of road safety documentation.
