Demonstrated experience with formal SRE practices, including error budgets, capacity planning, production readiness reviews, or fault-injection and resilience testing. Strong hands-on experience with Go and/or Node.js, with the flexibility and willingness to learn the other technology. Proven ability to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, and real-time data-processing services. Practical experience running production workloads with Docker and Kubernetes or comparable containerization and orchestration technologies. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS Cloud Formation. Working knowledge of observability platforms such as Datadog, including service instrumentation, monitoring, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting. Experience participating in production on-call rotations, troubleshooting live incidents, mitigating impact, and conducting post-incident analysis. Strong SQL skills and experience working with databases or data stores such as Dynamo DB, Redis, or Elasticsearch. Familiarity with Git, shell scripting, IDEs, CI/CD pipelines, and standard software engineering practices. Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and performance engineering. Excellent English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a globally distributed, remote-first environment. Ability to work independently, take ownership of complex problems, and collaborate effectively across teams. Strong interest in mentoring engineers and helping raise technical standards across the organization. A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is welcome but equivalent professional experience is also valued. <p>Prof. Shafique’s lab has many-years of R&D experience in cross-layer design and optimization for building energy-efficient and robust brain-inspired, autonomous, and cognitive systems and intelligent vision systems, including efficient learning and inference of complex AI/ML algorithms, specialized neural processing hardware and design tools, and ML security, and their applications in resource-constrained Embodied-AI systems (like autonomous vehicles, UAVs/UGVs, Robotics, smart houses/cities, Wearables, and Healthcare). The long-term vision of the eBRAIN lab is on embedding an energy-efficient and secure electronic brain inside modern cyber-physical systems (CPS) and IoT-Edge devices to enable assistive cognitive technologies that care for / serve humanity and the ecosystem in a safe and green way.</p><br><br>
<p>The successful applicants will join and drive a number of fascinating projects on designing, implementing, optimizing, prototyping and testing innovative solutions (software, hardware, or both) for the next-generation embodied-AI, GenAI and Agentic-AI systems, targeting high performance & energy-efficiency, robustness, and trustworthiness. A key focus will be on full-system prototyping, IP generation, patenting, and participating in high-quality publications with other lead researchers of the lab. A special focus will be on highly efficient implementations and prototyping for real-world use-cases, and building TRL-4/5 prototypes and actively optimizing the engineered solutions. The candidates will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, research engineers, graduate research students and undergraduate students, to investigate cutting-edge scientific methods and to develop full-system prototypes. <p>Applicants should have a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Extensive and sound knowledge of Robotics, ML, AI, DNN, LLMs/VLMs, Multimodal LLMs, RAG, Agentic frameworks, tinyML, ML frameworks (like PyTorch and Tensorflow), and Prototyping ML systems is required. The candidate should demonstrate a solid experience in practical AI/ML system development, hands-on engineering works on these intelligent systems, and system-level optimizations. Additional knowledge on MLOps, robust/secure computing, Hallucinations and Alignment, privacy-preserving ML, and ML security is highly desirable. Applicants with strong industrial experience, engineering experience, and/or with publications in top ML venues (conferences and journals) are highly preferred. The role covers design review, construction supervision, quality, schedule and cost control, and interface management for rolling stock depots, maintenance facilities and all buildings located along the railway alignment, ensuring that works are delivered safely, to specification, and in accordance with applicable international and local rail standards.<br> <br>Depot Buildings<br> Manage and oversee the design development, review and construction of depot civil and structural works, including rolling stock maintenance workshops, stabling sheds, inspection pits, wheel-lathe and wash-plant buildings, and associated foundations and structures. Direct the delivery of depot administration, operations control, warehouse/stores, fuel and lubrication, fire station, security and staff welfare buildings. Oversee depot-wide infrastructure including internal roads, hardstanding, drainage, retaining structures and boundary works, ensuring coordination with track, systems and utility works within the depot footprint. Coordinate civil works interfaces with permanent way, overhead contact system (OCS), signalling, power and building services (MEP) contractors within the depot. <br>Online (Wayside) Buildings<br> Manage civil and structural works for buildings located along the alignment, including signalling equipment rooms, traction power substations and OCS feeder stations, telecommunications huts, ventilation and plant buildings, and emergency access/escape structures. Oversee construction of station-related civil/structural elements, patrol and maintenance buildings, staff welfare cabins and security posts sited along the corridor. Ensure online buildings are correctly sequenced and interfaced with earthworks, structures, track possessions and systems installation activities along the alignment. <br>General Management & Technical Duties<br> Lead a multidisciplinary team of civil/structural engineers and site supervisors, allocating resources across depot and wayside building work-fronts. Review and approve design deliverables, drawings, specifications and method statements for compliance with contract requirements and applicable codes (e.g., Eurocodes, UIC, AREMA, or project-specified equivalents, and local UAE/GCC building and civil defence codes). Supervise contractors and subcontractors on site, monitoring workmanship, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and adherence to approved methods and programme. Develop and maintain the civil works construction programme for depot and online buildings, monitoring progress, identifying delays and implementing recovery measures.
